Department of Space approved common
technical facilities in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu
¨
Department of Space
approved common technical facilities in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu on 22 May 2026.
¨
These facilities are
being developed to strengthen India’s private-sector space manufacturing
ecosystem.
¨
The project involves the
participation of the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center
(IN-SPACe).
¨
Common Technical
Facilities are shared engineering centers.
¨
These centers provide
infrastructure for the testing, validation, and integration of space hardware.
¨
Both startups and large
industries will be able to use these facilities.
¨
Their objective is to
provide access to advanced rocket and satellite testing equipment.
¨
A space manufacturing
park will be established at Khodiyar near Ahmedabad in Gujarat.
¨
This park will focus on
the construction of spacecraft and complex payload systems.
¨
Facilities for structural
assembly and electronic validation will be developed there.
¨
Payload systems are the
instruments or materials carried by a spacecraft or launch vehicle for a
specific mission.
¨
A spacecraft cluster will
be developed in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu.
¨
This cluster will be
located near the small satellite launch complex being developed at
Kulasekarapattinam.
¨ The facility will support the manufacturing, testing, and integration of complete launch vehicle systems.
¨ This initiative will promote the private space industry and self-reliant space manufacturing in India.
