Digital India BHASHINI Division and the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding

¨     Digital India BHASHINI Division and the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 15 June 2026.

¨     The MoU aims to expand multilingual access in India’s public procurement ecosystem.

¨     The collaboration will use the BHASHINI Platform, India’s National Language Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), to provide language-enabled digital services on GeM.

¨     BHASHINI is a National Language Digital Public Infrastructure under the Digital India Programme.

¨     It provides translation, speech recognition, and voice-based digital interaction services in Indian languages.

¨     Government e-Marketplace (GeM) is the online public procurement portal for the procurement of goods and services by government organisations in India.

¨     GeM is used by ministries, departments, public sector undertakings (PSUs), and other eligible government entities.

¨     The partnership is being implemented under “BHASHINI for Seva/Sanchalan – A BHASHINI Sahayogi Program.”

¨     It includes the integration of AI-powered language technologies, Translation APIs, domain-specific language models, and voice-enabled tools.

¨     The initiative will support digital interaction in 22 officially recognised Indian languages and other regional languages.

¨     It will use “Voice First” language technology infrastructure and Generative AI solutions to improve accessibility.
