Trump nominated Jay Clayton as the Director of National Intelligence (DNI).

The Director of National
Intelligence coordinates the activities of the 18 agencies of the U.S.
Intelligence Community, including the Central Intelligence Agency and the
National Security Agency.

The DNI serves as the
head of the United States Intelligence Community.
¨
The office of DNI was
created under the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004
following the 9/11 Commission Report and the September 2001 attacks.

Jay Clayton previously
served as Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission from 2017 to
2020 during Donald Trump’s first term.
¨ As the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, he handles major cases involving terrorism, espionage, securities fraud, and public corruption.
¨ The nomination places him in line to oversee U.S. intelligence coordination and national security policy integration across federal agencies.
