Donald Trump has nominated Jay Clayton for the position of US Director of National Intelligence

¨     U.S. President Donald Trump nominated Jay Clayton as the Director of National Intelligence (DNI).

¨     The Director of National Intelligence coordinates the activities of the 18 agencies of the U.S. Intelligence Community, including the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency.

¨     The DNI serves as the head of the United States Intelligence Community.

¨     The office of DNI was created under the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 following the 9/11 Commission Report and the September 2001 attacks.

¨     Jay Clayton previously served as Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission from 2017 to 2020 during Donald Trump’s first term.

¨     As the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, he handles major cases involving terrorism, espionage, securities fraud, and public corruption.

¨     The nomination places him in line to oversee U.S. intelligence coordination and national security policy integration across federal agencies.
