undivided Andhra Pradesh and TDP co-founder Nadendla Bhaskara Rao passed away
on 22 April 2026 in Hyderabad.
- He was 90 years old and
was undergoing treatment for age-related ailments.
Historic Chief Ministership

Minister in 1984 for just 31 days.
- He came to power during a
political revolt against N.T. Rama Rao (NTR).
- This happened when NTR
was in the United States for heart surgery.
- Bhaskara Rao took office
with support from some TDP legislators and Congress (I).
- His government collapsed
after a massive “Save Democracy” movement.
- Due to public and
political pressure, NTR was reinstated as Chief Minister.
Role in Formation of TDP
- He was a co-founder of
the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 1982 along with N.T. Rama Rao.
- Served as Finance
Minister in the first TDP government after the 1983 elections.
- Played a key role in the
early growth of the party.
- Later expelled from TDP
after the 1984 political crisis and conflict with NTR.
