¨     Glow Lake in Arunachal Pradesh has been designated as a Wetland of International Importance (Ramsar Site) under the Ramsar Convention.

¨     It is the first Ramsar Site in Arunachal Pradesh.

¨     With this addition, the total number of Ramsar Sites in India has increased to 101.

¨     Glow Lake is a high-altitude freshwater lake known for its rich biodiversity, pristine ecosystem, and habitat for several rare plant and animal species.

¨     The lake plays a significant role in the conservation of migratory birds and the protection of mountain wetland ecosystems.

¨     It is located within the Kamlang Tiger Reserve and Wildlife Sanctuary in Lohit district, Arunachal Pradesh.

¨     Situated in the Eastern Himalayan region, the lake is recognized as a biodiversity hotspot and performs important hydrological and ecological functions.

¨     The lake is considered sacred by the Miju Mishmi (Kaman) and Digaru Mishmi (Taraon) communities.

¨     The traditional stewardship and community-based conservation practices of these indigenous communities have played a key role in preserving the lake’s ecological integrity.

¨     The Ramsar Site designation provides international recognition to the ecological importance of Glow Lake and acknowledges decades of successful community-led conservation efforts.
