Government of India approved 111 road projects provide all-weather connectivity to 134 previously unconnected villages along the India-China border

¨     The Government of India approved 111 road projects on 29 July 2026 to provide all-weather connectivity to 134 previously unconnected villages along the India-China border.

¨     The projects were sanctioned under the Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP).

¨     The estimated cost of these road projects is ₹2,481.93 crore.

¨     The Vibrant Villages Programme is a Central Sector Scheme aimed at the development of villages located in India’s border areas.

¨     The Ministry of Home Affairs implements the programme for villages along the northern border, including areas near the India-China frontier.

Road connectivity projects in border villages aim to

¨     Provide year-round road access.

¨     Improve the movement of goods and essential services.

¨     Ensure better delivery of government services to remote areas.

¨     All-weather roads are designed to remain functional during rain, snowfall, and other seasonal challenges in the Himalayan region.

Under the Vibrant Villages Programme

¨     4G mobile connectivity has been extended to 528 villages.

¨     Piped drinking water facilities have been provided to 625 villages.

¨     Electricity supply has been provided to 621 villages.

Under VVP-I

¨     140 off-grid solar projects have been sanctioned.

¨     Seven micro-hydel projects have also been approved.

¨     The initiative aims to strengthen border infrastructure, improve living standards in remote villages, and enhance strategic connectivity along India’s northern border.
