¨ Government of India has proposed the ₹10,000 crore Container Manufacturing Assistance Scheme (CMAS) to promote the domestic manufacturing of shipping containers.
¨ The main objective of CMAS is to increase domestic container production capacity, reduce import dependence, and strengthen India’s trade and logistics ecosystem.
¨ The Container Manufacturing Assistance Scheme (CMAS) was announced in the Union Budget 2026–27.
¨ A total allocation of ₹10,000 crore has been proposed for the scheme over a period of five years.
¨ Objective: To establish a globally competitive domestic container manufacturing ecosystem by providing financial and institutional support for setting up new manufacturing units and expanding existing facilities.
¨ The scheme aims to increase India’s annual domestic container manufacturing capacity to around 7.5 lakh Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs).
¨ CMAS is expected to help strengthen India’s shipping, logistics and export infrastructure while reducing dependence on imported containers.
