¨ Gramin Gyan Setu mobile application was launched on 12 August 2026 to digitally connect libraries across Gujarat’s Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency.
¨ The launch coincided with National Library Day, observed in India on 12 August.
¨ National Library Day commemorates the birth anniversary of Padma Shri S. R. Ranganathan, a pioneer of library science in India.
¨ Gramin Gyan Setu follows a hub-and-spoke model to improve access to libraries in rural areas.
¨ Under this system, smaller village libraries are connected with four central libraries.
¨ The four central libraries together have around 2.80 lakh books.
¨ Officials stated that 752 libraries were interconnected within three months of developing the system.
¨ The initial phase covers 63 village libraries across the Gandhinagar, Kalol and Sanand Assembly constituencies.
¨ Each village library is planned to have approximately 4,500–6,000 books.
¨ Some reports mention a slightly different range of 5,000–6,000 books per library.
¨ Four mobile library vans, funded through the MPLAD scheme, will visit villages every fortnight.
¨ The vans will collect issued books and deliver new books requested through the mobile application.
