¨ Gynacantha khasiaca has been rediscovered in Arunachal Pradesh after 110 years.

¨    It is commonly known as the Long-tailed Roarbird.

¨ The species was recorded during a biodiversity survey in October 2024 at Namdapha National Park and Tiger Reserve.

¨     It is a species of dragonfly belonging to the Aeshnidae family.

¨     The male dragonfly has pale blue-green eyes.

¨     Its thorax is bright green with dark stripes.

¨     The wings are transparent amber-colored.

¨     Its abdomen is long and ends in a black tip.

¨     The last confirmed record of this species in Arunachal Pradesh dated back to the Abor Expedition of 1914.

¨  The recent sighting represents the first confirmed record from the state in more than a century.

¨     The dragonfly was photographed along the Miao–Vijaynagar road.

¨   The discovery was made by four citizen scientists: R. Mahesh, Rajesh Gopinath, Gaurav Joshi, and Roshan Upadhyay.

¨  The findings have been published in the latest issue of Journal of Threatened Taxa.
