The Indian women's cricket team created
history by defeating South Africa in the final played at the D.Y. Patil Stadium
in Mumbai. With a brilliant performance, Team India defeated South Africa by 52
runs. With this victory, captain Harmanpreet Kaur also made history.
Harmanpreet became the oldest captain in the world to win the Women's World
Cup. Harmanpreet Kaur achieved this feat at the age of 36 years and 239 days.
This was the third time in the 52-year
history of the World Cup that the Indian women's team had reached the World Cup
final. And this time, the Harman Brigade finally lifted the trophy. Batting
first, the Indian women's team set a target of 299 runs for South Africa.
Shafali and Deepti scored fifties. However, in response, the South African team
was all out for 246. India won the match by 52 runs, with Deepti Sharma taking
5 wickets. Shefali Verma was named Player of the Match, and Deepti Sharma was
named Player of the Series.
The Indian women's team, which won the 13th
edition of the Women's ODI World Cup, received a prize money of $4.48 million
(approximately Rs. 40 crores). This amount was 239 percent more than the $1.32
million received by Australia in the 2022 World Cup. The runner-up, South
Africa, also received a substantial sum. Laura Wolvaardt-led South Africa
received $2.24 million (approximately Rs. 20 crores). This amount was 273
percent more than the $600,000 received by England in the 2022 ODI World Cup.
Furthermore, Bangladesh and Pakistan, the seventh and eighth-place finishers,
also received substantial sums.
Bangladesh and Pakistan received a similar
amount of $280,000 (approximately ₹2.3 crore). Furthermore, each team
participating in the Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 was awarded a guaranteed
amount of $250,000 (approximately ₹2 crore) from the ICC (International Cricket
Council). Additionally, teams received an additional $34,314 (approximately
₹2.8 million) for each match they won.
What Australia and
England Received

The two
losing semi-finalists, Australia and England, received a similar amount of
$1.12 million (approximately ₹9.3 crore). In the previous edition of the ODI
World Cup, the prize money for the losing semi-finalists was only $300,000. Sri
Lanka and New Zealand, the teams that finished 5th and 6th in the points table,
received a similar amount of $700,000 (approximately ₹5.8 crore).
