India and Nepal held the
10th Project Steering Committee (PSC) and 8th Joint Working Group (JWG)
meetings in Kathmandu.
¨
The meetings reviewed
progress in cross-border railway cooperation between the two countries.
¨
Discussions focused on
the Janakpur–Ayodhya passenger rail corridor and the procedures for starting
passenger train services.
¨
Janakpur is associated
with Goddess Sita, while Ayodhya is associated with Lord Ram.
¨
The Final Location Survey
(FLS) report for the proposed Raxaul–Kathmandu broad-gauge railway link was
reviewed.
¨
Technical support for
Nepal’s East-West Railway Link was also discussed.
¨
Progress of the
Jaynagar–Bijalpura–Bardibas and Jogbani–Biratnagar broad-gauge railway projects
was assessed.
¨
These railway lines are
being developed with Indian grant assistance.
¨ The Indian delegation was led by Rohit Rathish (Ministry of External Affairs) and Pradeep Ojha (Ministry of Railways).
¨ The Nepali delegation was led by Sushil Babu Dhakal of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport.
