India and Romania Sign Three Agreements to
Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

India and Romania signed
three agreements in Bucharest on 23 July 2026 during the State Visit of
President Droupadi Murmu to Romania.
¨
The agreements were
signed after delegation-level talks between President Droupadi Murmu and
Romanian President Nicuşor Dan.
¨
The agreements cover
Science and Technology, Sports, and Indian Studies.
¨
The Science and
Technology Cooperation Programme was signed between Romania's National
Authority for Research (under the Ministry of Education and Research) and
India's Department of Science and Technology (DST) (under the Ministry of
Science and Technology).
¨
The programme aims to
promote research collaboration, joint scientific projects, exchange of
researchers, and institutional cooperation in identified priority areas.
¨
A Memorandum of Understanding
(MoU) was signed for the establishment of a Chair of Indian Studies at the
University of Bucharest.
¨ The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) will support the Chair of Indian Studies to promote teaching, research, and cultural studies related to India.
¨ The agreements are expected to strengthen bilateral cooperation in education, scientific research, sports, and cultural exchanges between India and Romania.
