India has gifted the Maldives its first high-speed ferry, which will
launch new transportation services between major atolls.
¨
The ferry, built with Indian assistance, marks the launch of the Rajje
Transport Link (RTL) services between Faafu and Dhaalu Atolls.

This initiative is part of India's continued support under the High
Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) Phase III agreement. This step
strengthens maritime connectivity and demonstrates India's commitment to the
'Neighborhood First' policy.

Ferry Project: Handing Over of the First High-Speed Ferry

India has handed over the first of the 12 proposed high-speed ferries to
the Maldives under the HICDP Phase III agreement signed in January 2025.\This
ferry will connect Faafu and Dhaalu Atolls under the RTL system. G.
Balasubramanian, High Commissioner of India to the Maldives, reiterated India's
commitment to supporting essential public services.

The project aims to enhance connectivity between remote islands,
strengthen local mobility, and stimulate economic activity.
HICDP Phase-III and Grant Assistance Details
¨ This high-speed ferry project is part of HICDP Phase-III. In May 2025, India signed 13 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Maldives for ferry service expansion and community development.
