¨     India has formally initiated the process of preparing its military leadership for future wars. The third edition of the Future Warfare Course was launched in New Delhi on February 2, 2026.

¨     This three-week program involves officers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as experts from the defense industry. The course focuses on how technology, geopolitics, and new dimensions of warfare are transforming military operations.

¨     Its objective is to make the Indian Armed Forces adaptable, integrated, and future-ready.

What is the Future Warfare Course

¨     The Future Warfare Course is a tri-service professional military program conducted under the aegis of Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS) in collaboration with the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS).

¨     The course is designed to study how modern warfare is being transformed by technology, new domains of warfare, and evolving geopolitical realities.

¨     It encourages officers to rethink the principles, strategies, concepts, and tactical procedures necessary for future conflicts.

Key Focus Areas of the Course

¨     This edition incorporates an expanded and advanced curriculum.

¨     It places special emphasis on emerging military technologies, domain-specific warfare, and the impact of innovation on warfighting.

¨     Participants engage in practical demonstrations, expert lectures, and institutional visits related to India's defense capabilities.

¨     Topics such as cyber warfare, space, Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based systems, supply chain vulnerabilities, and dependence on rare earth minerals are discussed in depth

¨     The goal is to develop a deeper understanding of the factors that will influence the planning and execution of future military operations.
