On August 1, 2026, Indian
Railways approved a multi-tracking project for the 29-km-long Danapur–Fatuha
rail section in Bihar, under the East Central Railway zone.

The total cost of this
project is ₹976 crore.
¨
Its objective is to
expand the line capacity of the Patna rail corridor and streamline the movement
of increasing passenger and freight traffic.
¨
Under the project, third
and fourth railway lines will be developed on selected stretches between
Danapur, Patna, Rajendra Nagar, Patna Sahib, and Fatuha.
¨
Multi-tracking involves
the construction of additional rail lines along an existing railway route.
¨
Through multi-tracking on
congested routes, Indian Railways improves train movement, reduces operational
conflicts between passenger and freight trains, and increases line capacity.
¨
Under the project, third
and fourth lines will be constructed between Danapur and Patna.
¨
A third line will be
developed between Rajendra Nagar and Patna Sahib.
¨
Third and fourth lines
will be built between Patna Sahib and Fatuha.
¨
This 29-km-long rail
section is located in Bihar and forms a crucial part of the busy rail network
in the Patna region.
¨
Upon completion, the
project is expected to facilitate the operation of an additional 22 passenger
trains and 18 freight trains daily in the first year.
¨
This will create the
capacity to transport approximately 5.2 million tonnes of additional freight
annually.
¨
The project will play a
significant role in strengthening rail infrastructure in Bihar, enhancing
freight transport capacity, and easing traffic congestion on the Patna rail
corridor.
