INS Malvan is the second vessel of the Mahe-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft built for the Indian Navy

¨     INS Malvan is the second vessel of the Mahe-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) built for the Indian Navy.

¨     The vessel was designed and constructed by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), Kochi, and was delivered to the Indian Navy on 31 March 2026.

¨     The Mahe-class belongs to the Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) category, designed for operations in shallow coastal waters.

¨     These vessels are intended for anti-submarine warfare (ASW), mine warfare, and Low Intensity Maritime Operations (LIMO).

¨     INS Malvan is approximately 80 metres long and has a displacement of about 1,100 tonnes.

¨     The vessel is powered by a waterjet propulsion system.

¨     It is equipped with advanced sensors, torpedoes, and multifunctional anti-submarine rockets.

¨     INS Malvan has more than 80% indigenous content, reflecting India's emphasis on self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

¨     The vessel is part of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, promoting indigenous design and construction of naval warships.

¨     INS Malvan is intended to replace the Abhay-class corvettes in the Indian Navy.

¨     The Abhay-class has served as a small anti-submarine warfare platform for operations in coastal and littoral waters.
