Madhya Pradesh Cabinet has decided, for the first time, to procure Kodo and Kutki (coarse grains) from farmers in major coarse grain-producing districts.

Key Points

¨     Introduction: Kodo and Kutki will be procured under the 'Rani Durgavati Shri-Anna Protsahan Yojana'.

¨     Procurement Districts: Major producing districts such as Jabalpur, Katni, Mandla, Dindori, Chhindwara, Shahdol, Anuppur, Umaria, Rewa, Sidhi, and Singrauli will be given priority, while other districts will be included as per their needs.

¨     Agency: The procurement process will be handled by the Shri-Anna Consortium of Farmer-Producer Companies Limited (Shri Ann Federation).

¨     The Federation will purchase approximately 30,000 metric tons of coarse grains, with the price fixed at ₹3,500 per quintal for Kutki and ₹2,500 per quintal for Kodo.

¨     Financial assistance: The Shree-Anna Federation will receive an interest-free loan of ₹80 crore from the State Price Stabilization Fund.

¨     Farmer incentives: An incentive of ₹1,000 per quintal will be provided to farmers' bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Kodo and Kutki

¨     Kodo and Kutki are types of millets, botanically known as Paspalum scrobiculatum and Panicum sumatrense, respectively.

¨     Both grains can be eaten like rice.

¨     Kodo contains 8.3 grams of protein per 100 grams, whereas Kutki contains 7.7 grams of protein per 100 grams.
