Microsoft announced the general availability of its fourth cloud region in India

¨     Microsoft announced the general availability of its fourth cloud region in India on 6 August 2026.

¨     The new cloud region is called the India South Central region and is located in Hyderabad, Telangana.

¨     With this launch, Microsoft now has four cloud regions in India.

¨     Microsoft’s other cloud regions are located in Pune, Chennai and Mumbai.

¨     The Hyderabad region is part of Microsoft’s hyperscale cloud infrastructure in India.

¨     A cloud region is a geographic area containing multiple datacentres that provide cloud services such as storage, networking, databases and artificial intelligence workloads.

¨     The Hyderabad cloud region has three availability zones.

¨     Availability zones are physically separate datacentre locations within a cloud region designed to provide higher resilience and service continuity.

¨     The new region is designed to support enterprise workloads, sovereign-ready AI applications and mission-critical digital services.

¨     The Hyderabad datacentre uses air-cooled chillers and requires zero water for cooling.

¨     This cooling design supports Microsoft’s 2030 water-positive goal, which focuses on water conservation, efficiency and replenishment.

¨     Microsoft’s expansion of cloud and AI infrastructure in India is backed by a cumulative investment commitment of $20.5 billion.

¨     The total includes a $3 billion investment announced in January 2025 and an additional $17.5 billion commitment announced in December 2025.

¨     Major Indian enterprises such as Adani Group, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finserv and PB Pay are among the early customers of the Hyderabad cloud region.

¨     Puneet Chandok, President of Microsoft India and South Asia, linked the expansion with Microsoft’s AI-first infrastructure strategy in India.
