Neelkanth Mishra was appointed as India’s Executive Director at the World Bank

¨     Neelkanth Mishra was appointed as India’s Executive Director at the World Bank on 4 June 2026.

¨     He will represent India at the World Bank headquarters in Washington, D.C..

¨     His tenure will be three years from the date he assumes office.

¨     He will succeed Parameswaran Iyer.

¨     The Board of Executive Directors of the World Bank oversees the institution’s operations, policies, and lending decisions.

¨     Executive Directors represent member countries or groups of countries at the World Bank.

¨     The appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).

¨     The ACC also approved an extension of Parameswaran Iyer’s tenure beyond 19 June 2026 until Mishra formally assumes charge.

¨     Before this appointment, Neelkanth Mishra served as Chief Economist at Axis Bank.

¨     He also served as Head of Global Research and Whole-Time Director at Axis Capital.

¨     He is a part-time member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister.

¨     He also serves as the part-time Chairperson of the Unique Identification Authority of India.

¨     Additionally, he is a part-time member of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.
