Nepalese mountaineer Kami Rita Sherpa created history by climbing Mount Everest for the 32nd time

¨ Nepalese mountaineer Kami Rita Sherpa created history by climbing Mount Everest for the 32nd time on 17 May 2026.

¨     The 56-year-old climber reached the summit at 10:12 AM Nepal time through the South-East Ridge route.

¨     The expedition was organised under the leadership of 14 Peaks Expedition.

¨ Nepal’s Everest Base Camp office under the tourism department officially confirmed the achievement.

¨     Mount Everest is the world’s highest mountain with a height of 8,848.86 metres above sea level.

¨     The mountain is located on the border between Nepal and China’s Tibet Autonomous Region.

¨     Everest is part of the Mahalangur Himal sub-range of the Himalayas.

¨     The South-East Ridge route used by Kami Rita is the most commonly used climbing route from the Nepal side.

¨     The route passes through the South Col before reaching the final summit.

¨     Kami Rita Sherpa was born on 17 January 1970 in Thame village of Solukhumbu district, Nepal.

¨     He first climbed Mount Everest in 1994 at the age of 24.

¨  He completed his 31st Everest summit on 27 May 2025 before achieving the 32nd successful ascent in 2026

¨     With this achievement, he strengthened his own world record for the highest number of Everest summits.
