Operation Trishul is an
Indian fugitive-tracking and extradition initiative.

Under the initiative, 274
fugitives from 36 countries have been brought back to India since 2019.
¨
These fugitives were
wanted in cases involving terrorism, organised crime, narco-terrorism, sexual
offences, financial fraud, murder, and human trafficking.
¨
Operation Trishul uses
satellite imagery, surveillance inputs, and digital footprints to track
fugitives.
¨
It helps identify
fugitives who change their names or identities while living abroad.
¨
The operation involves
coordination among the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Central Bureau of
Investigation (CBI), Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), State Police Forces, and
Interpol.
¨
India brought back 70
fugitives in 2025.
¨
At least 45 fugitives had
been brought back by July 2026.
¨
On 5 August 2026, the
government stated that the total number of fugitives brought back since 2019
had reached 274.
¨
The Prevention of Money
Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA) is used for the attachment and recovery of proceeds
of crime.
¨
Between 2019 and 2026,
assets worth ₹17,874 crore were attached under the PMLA.
¨
During the same period,
₹18,762 crore was recovered through restitution.
¨
BHARATPOL was launched in
January 2025.
