Exercise Begins in Meghalaya

Pragati 2026 is a
multinational military exercise that began on 20 May 2026 in Meghalaya.

The two-week exercise is
being conducted at Umroi Military Station near Shillong.

Armed forces personnel
from 13 countries are participating in the exercise.

India is hosting 12
partner nations in Pragati 2026.
¨
Participating countries
include Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal,
Philippines, Seychelles, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.

The main objective of the
exercise is to conduct joint counter-terrorism operations in jungle and
semi-mountainous terrain.

The exercise includes
coordinated military action training in difficult geographical conditions.

It focuses on improving
operational capability in challenging regions like Northeast India.
¨
The exercise aims to
enhance interoperability among the participating armed forces.
¨
It also promotes
professional military cooperation and a shared regional approach toward
counter-terrorism measures.

The event includes an
exhibition of indigenous military equipment and innovations.
¨ Indian defence manufacturers and technology companies are showcasing their innovations.
¨ The initiative is linked to the Aatmanirbhar Bharat campaign, which promotes domestic production in strategic sectors.
