Pragati 2026: Multinational Military Exercise Begins in Meghalaya

¨     Pragati 2026 is a multinational military exercise that began on 20 May 2026 in Meghalaya.

¨     The two-week exercise is being conducted at Umroi Military Station near Shillong.

¨     Armed forces personnel from 13 countries are participating in the exercise.

¨     India is hosting 12 partner nations in Pragati 2026.

¨     Participating countries include Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Seychelles, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.

¨     The main objective of the exercise is to conduct joint counter-terrorism operations in jungle and semi-mountainous terrain.

¨     The exercise includes coordinated military action training in difficult geographical conditions.

¨     It focuses on improving operational capability in challenging regions like Northeast India.

¨     The exercise aims to enhance interoperability among the participating armed forces.

¨     It also promotes professional military cooperation and a shared regional approach toward counter-terrorism measures.

¨     The event includes an exhibition of indigenous military equipment and innovations.

¨     Indian defence manufacturers and technology companies are showcasing their innovations.

¨     The initiative is linked to the Aatmanirbhar Bharat campaign, which promotes domestic production in strategic sectors.
