Punjab Partners with IIT Ropar to Develop AI-Based Real-Time Crime Tracking System

  • ¨     Punjab government has partnered with Indian Institute of Technology Ropar to develop an advanced Artificial Intelligence-based system for real-time crime tracking and analysis.
  •   The initiative aims to modernise policing by transforming scattered data into actionable intelligence, strengthening ongoing anti-crime and anti-drug campaigns in the state.

AI-Driven Policing Framework

  • ¨  Under the collaboration, IIT Ropar will design a structured data system equipped with capabilities such as data analytics, voice recognition, and dashboard-based monitoring.
  •    These tools will enable law enforcement agencies to track criminal activity in real time and generate insights for quicker decision-making. The system is expected to significantly enhance intelligence-led policing in Punjab.

Integration of Structured and Unstructured Data

  • ¨    A key feature of the project is the integration of both structured and unstructured data.
  •     Police records often exist in fragmented formats such as scanned documents and handwritten reports.

  •   The new system will digitise and unify these records into a single database, allowing seamless access and analysis. This will reduce delays in investigations and improve data accuracy.
