Punjab
Partners with IIT Ropar to Develop AI-Based Real-Time Crime Tracking System
- ¨ Punjab government has partnered with Indian Institute of Technology Ropar to develop an advanced Artificial Intelligence-based system for real-time crime tracking and analysis.
- The initiative aims to modernise policing by transforming scattered data into actionable intelligence, strengthening ongoing anti-crime and anti-drug campaigns in the state.
AI-Driven Policing Framework
- ¨ Under the collaboration, IIT Ropar will design a structured data system equipped with capabilities such as data analytics, voice recognition, and dashboard-based monitoring.
- These tools will enable law enforcement agencies to track criminal activity in real time and generate insights for quicker decision-making. The system is expected to significantly enhance intelligence-led policing in Punjab.
Integration of Structured and Unstructured
Data
- ¨ A key feature of the project is the integration of both structured and unstructured data.
- Police records often exist in fragmented formats such as scanned documents and handwritten reports.
- The new system will
digitise and unify these records into a single database, allowing seamless
access and analysis. This will reduce delays in investigations and improve data
accuracy.
