Rajasthan Launches State Water Plan 2047
¨
Government of Rajasthan
launched the Rajasthan State Water Plan 2047 on 24 July 2026.
¨
The plan provides a
long-term framework for river-linking projects, groundwater conservation, and
public participation in water resource management.
¨
It includes several major
drinking water and irrigation projects, such as the Ramjal Setu Link Project,
the Yamuna Water Agreement, and urban water supply projects under AMRUT 2.0.
¨
Rajasthan is a
predominantly arid and semi-arid state, and its water management depends on
canal systems, groundwater recharge, and rainwater harvesting.
¨
The Indira Gandhi Canal
Project is one of the state's major irrigation and drinking water systems,
supplying water to districts in western Rajasthan.
¨
The Ramjal Setu Link
Project aims to provide drinking water to 17 districts and irrigation to
approximately 4.84 lakh hectares of agricultural land.
¨
Under the Yamuna Water
Agreement, finalised on 23 June 2026, 1,917 cusecs of Yamuna water will be
supplied to the Shekhawati region through a 295-km pipeline.
¨
The Shekhawati region
comprises the Sikar, Jhunjhunu, and Churu districts.
¨
The project is expected
to provide drinking water to about 7.5 million people.
¨
Work is also progressing
on the Devas III and Devas IV drinking water projects for Udaipur.
¨
The estimated cost of the
Devas III and Devas IV projects is ₹1,691 crore.
¨
The Rajasthan State Water
Plan 2047 aims to strengthen water security, sustainable water management,
irrigation infrastructure, and long-term conservation of water resources in the
state.
