¨     Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has launched a nationwide capacity-building programme called “Mission SAKSHAM” for Urban Cooperative Banks (UCBs).

¨  The initiative aims to improve governance, resilience, and professional standards in the cooperative banking sector.

¨     It is designed as a mission-mode exercise to modernise cooperative banking while preserving its community-focused structure.

¨     The programme will include both physical and digital training modules across India.

¨     It will cover around 1.4 lakh participants nationwide.

Key objectives of Mission SAKSHAM

¨     Strengthening managerial and operational capabilities of UCBs

¨     Improving compliance culture and governance standards

¨     Enhancing institutional resilience

¨     Aligning cooperative banks with modern banking practices

The term “SAKSHAM” means capable or empowered, reflecting the goal of making cooperative banks more efficient and future-ready in a changing financial environment.
