Telugu poet and lyricist Ande Sri passed away at the age of 64.
¨ He was best known for composing the Telangana
State Anthem, “Jaya Jayahe Telangana.”
¨ Ande Sri was born as Ande Yellanna in
Rebarthi village, Siddipet district.
¨ He rose to prominence as a major literary and
cultural figure in Telangana.
¨ His song “Jaya Jayahe Telangana” became a
powerful symbol during the statehood movement.
¨ It was later adopted as the official anthem
of Telangana.
¨ Kakatiya University awarded him an honorary
doctorate for his literary and cultural contributions.

During
Telangana Formation Day celebrations, the state government presented him with a
one-crore-rupee cash prize.
