Renowned Urdu poet Bashir Badr was passed away

¨     Renowned Urdu poet Bashir Badr was born as Syed Muhammad Bashir on 15 February 1935 in Faizabad.

¨     He passed away at the age of 91 in Bhopal on 28 May 2026.

¨     Bashir Badr was widely known for his contributions to Urdu poetry, especially the ghazal tradition.

¨     He actively participated in mushairas (traditional Urdu poetry gatherings) and gained popularity for his poetic recitations.

¨     He served as a teacher of Urdu at Aligarh Muslim University.

¨     Later, he worked as the Head of the Urdu Department at Meerut College for 17 years.

¨   Urdu ghazal is a classical poetic form characterized by rhyming couplets and a recurring refrain.

¨  Bashir Badr played an important role in preserving and promoting the Urdu ghazal tradition through his writings and public performances.

¨     During the 1987 Meerut Riots, much of his unpublished literary work was lost.

¨     Following the riots, he moved to Bhopal, where he spent the later years of his life.
