Rishikanta Singh Chanambam won the silver medal in the men's 60 kg weightlifting event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow

¨  Rishikanta Singh Chanambam won the silver medal in the men's 60 kg weightlifting event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow.

¨     He became India's first silver medallist at the Commonwealth Games 2026.

¨     Rishikanta hails from Imphal West, Manipur.

¨     He was born on 5 July 1998.

¨     He began his training at the National Sports Academy (NSA), Khuman Lampak, Manipur.

¨     In 2018, he joined the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) to further enhance his training.

¨     In the men's 60 kg event, he delivered an outstanding performance.

¨     Snatch: 121 kg (Commonwealth Games Record).

¨     Clean and Jerk: 143 kg.

¨     Total Lift: 264 kg.

¨     His 121 kg snatch on the third attempt set a new Commonwealth Games record, surpassing the previous record of 120 kg.

¨     Under International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) rules, when multiple lifters lift the same record weight, the record is credited to the athlete who achieves it first.

¨     Mohamad Aniq Kasdan (Malaysia) won the gold medal with a total lift of 273 kg.

¨     Joshua Amunga Mboya (Kenya) won the bronze medal with a total lift of 260 kg.

¨     Rishikanta's silver medal became India's second medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026, after para powerlifter Jhandu Kumar won the bronze medal on the opening day.
