Rohit Jain Appointed as Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India

¨     The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the appointment of Rohit Jain as Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India.

¨     He is currently serving as Executive Director at the RBI.

¨     Will assume charge on or after 3 May 2026.

¨     His tenure will be for three years.

¨     The appointment ensures continuity in leadership.

¨     Rohit Jain has nearly three decades of experience at the RBI.

¨     Expertise in banking supervision, financial regulation, and institutional oversight.

¨     Serving as Executive Director since December 2020.

¨     Played a key role in supervising banking operations and ensuring financial stability.

¨     He succeeds T. Rabi Shankar.

¨     T. Rabi Shankar’s tenure ended after multiple extensions during 2024–2025.

¨     He had been serving as Deputy Governor since 2021.

¨     Oversaw key areas such as financial markets regulation, foreign exchange, fintech, and payment systems.
