Sarvesh Kushare Wins Silver in Men's High Jump at Commonwealth Games 2026

¨     Sarvesh Kushare won the silver medal in the men's high jump event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 held at Scotstoun Stadium, Glasgow.

¨     He cleared a height of 2.25 metres.

¨     Jamaica's Romaine Beckford won the gold medal on countback, having cleared the same height with fewer attempts.

¨     This was India's first-ever silver medal in the men's high jump at the Commonwealth Games.

¨     India's previous best performance in the event was the bronze medal won by Tejaswin Shankar at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

¨     Sarvesh Kushare is a Naib Subedar in the Indian Army.

¨     He belongs to Deogoan village in Nashik district, Maharashtra.

¨     During his early training, he used agricultural waste as a landing surface for practice.

¨     At the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships 2026, he cleared 2.31 metres, breaking Tejaswin Shankar's eight-year-old national record.

¨     Earlier in the same month, he finished third in Monaco with a jump of 2.26 metres.

¨     He became only the fourth Indian athlete to finish on the podium at a Diamond League meeting.
