Soumya Swaminathan was formally inducted as a Fellow of the Royal Society of London

¨     Soumya Swaminathan was formally inducted as a Fellow of the Royal Society of London.

¨     She was elected to the fellowship in May 2026.

¨     The Royal Society is the United Kingdom’s premier scientific academy, founded in 1660.

¨     Fellows of the Royal Society are entitled to use the post-nominal letters FRS (Fellow of the Royal Society) after their names.

¨     The fellowship is awarded to scientists, engineers, and technologists for outstanding contributions to natural sciences, mathematics, and applied sciences.

¨     The Royal Society has a scientific legacy of around 365 years as of 2026.

¨     Soumya Swaminathan became the second Indian woman scientist to receive the Royal Society Fellowship.

¨     Prof. Gagandeep Kang was elected as a Fellow in 2019 and became the first Indian woman scientist to receive this honour.

¨     The fellowship includes several Indian scientists from diverse scientific disciplines.
