Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in as the Chief Minister of West Bengal

¨     Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in as the Chief Minister of West Bengal on 9 May 2026.

¨     He became the first Bharatiya Janata Party Chief Minister of the state.

¨     He is the 9th person to hold the office of Chief Minister in West Bengal.

¨     West Bengal is a state located in eastern India.

¨     Under Article 164 of the Constitution of India, the Chief Minister is the head of the elected state government.

¨     The Governor of West Bengal administers the oath of office to the Chief Minister according to constitutional procedure.

¨     In the 2026 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election, the Bharatiya Janata Party won 207 out of 294 seats.

¨     The election result ended the 15-year rule of the All India Trinamool Congress government in the state.

¨     The oath-taking ceremony was held at Brigade Parade Ground on 9 May 2026.

¨     R. N. Ravi administered the oath of office.

¨     Narendra Modi and Amit Shah attended the ceremony.
