Telangana recorded the highest number of human trafficking cases

¨     According to the ‘Crime in India 2024’ report released by the National Crime Records Bureau, Telangana recorded the highest number of human trafficking cases in 2024 with 423 cases.

¨     India recorded a total of 2,135 human trafficking cases in 2024.

¨     Telangana alone accounted for nearly 20% of the national total.

¨     Human trafficking is recorded as a cognisable offence under the Indian Penal Code and related special laws.

¨     NCRB publishes state-wise crime statistics through its annual ‘Crime in India’ report.

¨     The report includes registered cases, victims, arrests, charge sheets, and conviction data.

¨     Telangana recorded a human trafficking crime rate of 1.1 cases per lakh population in 2024.

¨     The national average during the same year was 0.2 cases per lakh population.

¨     In 2023, Telangana recorded 336 human trafficking cases.

¨     Maharashtra ranked first in 2023 with 388 cases, while Telangana ranked second.

¨     In 2024, authorities identified 814 victims of human trafficking in Telangana.

¨     Among them, 792 were women.

¨     A total of 770 victims were trafficked for sexual exploitation linked to prostitution.

¨     In 2023, Telangana Police rescued 626 trafficking victims, including 604 women.

¨     Telangana recorded a conviction rate of 3.7% in human trafficking cases in 2023.

¨     Out of 1,058 arrests, nine persons were convicted.

¨     Charge sheets were filed against 873 individuals.
