Udmaroo Bridge over the Shayok River was inaugurated in Nubra district, Ladakh

¨     Udmaroo Bridge over the Shayok River was inaugurated in Nubra district, Ladakh, on 21 July 2026.

¨     The bridge was built at a cost of ₹27.18 crore under the Union Territory Administration's Special Development Package.

¨     It aims to improve road connectivity in remote and border areas of Ladakh.

¨     The bridge reduces the distance between Udmaroo–Hundri and Terchey–Skuru villages by about 35 km.

¨     The project includes approximately 230 metres of approach roads.

¨     It is a three-span Truss System Bridge.

¨     The bridge has a 70R loading capacity, enabling it to carry heavy vehicular traffic.

¨     It spans the Shayok River, one of the major river systems in the Ladakh region.

¨     The bridge provides all-weather connectivity in the Nubra region.

¨     It also improves access to Sham Gombo (Yarma Gonbo), an important Buddhist pilgrimage site.

¨     The project is expected to benefit nearly 1,000 residents of the surrounding villages.

¨     The Shayok River flows through the Nubra Valley and is an important river in Ladakh.

¨     A truss bridge is constructed using a framework of interconnected triangular elements for strength and stability.

¨     Special Development Package projects focus on infrastructure development in remote and border areas of Union Territories.
