¨     Under the leadership of India’s BRICS Sherpa Sudhakar Dalela, the first BRICS Sherpa Meeting has started in New Delhi under India’s chairmanship.

¨     Secretary (Economic Relations) and India’s BRICS Sherpa Sudhakar Dalela emphasized the key priorities of India’s chairmanship based on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a people-centric and humanity-first approach.

¨     India will assume the BRICS chairmanship for the fourth time this year, having previously served as chair in 2012, 2016 and 2021.

¨     The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Representative of the Republic of Belarus to India, M. Kasko, participated in the first BRICS Sherpa/Sous-Sherpa Meeting in Delhi as the representative of the Republic of Belarus as a BRICS partner country.

Theme of BRICS under India’s chairmanship

¨     India’s BRICS chairmanship is based on the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, which reflects the people-centric and humanity-first vision articulated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister at the 2025 Rio Summit.

¨     India’s chairmanship is based on four main pillars: Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.

¨     Voice of the Global South: India will emerge as the voice of developing countries (Global South) and will emphasize multilateralism and counter-terrorism efforts.

¨     India will assume the BRICS presidency in the year 2026 and will host the 18th BRICS Summit.

¨     Indonesia has officially joined BRICS, while Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Nigeria, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Uganda and Uzbekistan have been accepted as BRICS partner countries.
