Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Working Group held in Puri, Odisha.

experts, and policymakers from 11 BRICS member and partner countries
participated in the event.

The BRICS Disaster Risk
Reduction Working Group serves as a technical platform for cooperation on
disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and risk reduction.

BRICS currently comprises
Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi
Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia.

Uttarakhand’s model
features an Early Warning System, Rapid Response Mechanism, technology-enabled
coordination, and rescue operations in difficult terrain.

The model was showcased
as an effective example of disaster management in mountainous and
disaster-prone regions.

Uttarakhand State
Disaster Management Authority coordinates risk-reduction measures and
inter-departmental response during emergencies.

State Disaster Response
Force operates in the state’s mountainous and disaster-prone areas, carrying
out rescue and relief operations.

The Silkyara Tunnel
Rescue Operation was highlighted as a successful example of multi-agency
coordination.
¨ The operation involved coordinated rescue efforts following the tunnel collapse incident in Uttarakhand.
