The Union Cabinet
approved the Revamped Khelo India Scheme and the Assistance to National Sports
Federations Scheme on July 31, 2026.
¨
A combined financial
outlay of ₹36,441 crore has been sanctioned for both schemes for the period
from the 2026-27 to 2030-31 financial years.
¨
This package focuses on
identifying sports talent at the grassroots level, athlete development,
creating sports infrastructure, and providing support to National Sports
Federations.
¨
The Khelo India Scheme is
a flagship program of the Government of India aimed at developing sports at
school, college, district, and elite levels.
¨
The objective of the
revamped Khelo India Scheme is to create an integrated sports ecosystem.
¨
To achieve this, National
Centres of Excellence, Khelo India Centres of Excellence, and Khelo India
Accredited Academies will be developed.
¨
The financial outlay
approved for the revamped scheme is approximately eight times higher than that
of the previous Khelo India Scheme.
