Union Cabinet approved the Revamped Khelo India Scheme and the Assistance to National Sports Federations Scheme

¨     The Union Cabinet approved the Revamped Khelo India Scheme and the Assistance to National Sports Federations Scheme on July 31, 2026.

¨     A combined financial outlay of ₹36,441 crore has been sanctioned for both schemes for the period from the 2026-27 to 2030-31 financial years.

¨     This package focuses on identifying sports talent at the grassroots level, athlete development, creating sports infrastructure, and providing support to National Sports Federations.

¨     The Khelo India Scheme is a flagship program of the Government of India aimed at developing sports at school, college, district, and elite levels.

¨     The objective of the revamped Khelo India Scheme is to create an integrated sports ecosystem.

¨     To achieve this, National Centres of Excellence, Khelo India Centres of Excellence, and Khelo India Accredited Academies will be developed.

¨     The financial outlay approved for the revamped scheme is approximately eight times higher than that of the previous Khelo India Scheme.
