¨     Union Government has announced 50% reservation for Ex-Agniveers in recruitment to Constable (General Duty) posts in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Rifleman posts in the Assam Rifles.

¨     The announcement was made through a written reply in the Lok Sabha by Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai.

¨     The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has created a separate Ex-Agniveer category for recruitment.

¨     The reservation applies to Constable (GD) and Rifleman, which are entry-level uniformed posts.

¨     The CAPFs include the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), and Assam Rifles.

¨     These forces function under the Ministry of Home Affairs and are responsible for border guarding, internal security, counter-insurgency operations, and protection of vital installations.

¨     Eligible Ex-Agniveers will receive a 3-year relaxation in the upper age limit for recruitment.

¨     The first batch of Agniveers will receive an additional 5-year age relaxation, making the total age relaxation 8 years for that batch.

¨     Ex-Agniveers will be exempt from the Physical Standards Test (PST), Physical Efficiency Test (PET), and the written examination.

¨     The Agnipath Scheme was launched in 2022 for recruitment into the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force.

¨     Under the scheme, Agniveers serve for a fixed tenure of four years, after which a selected proportion may be inducted into the regular cadre.

¨     A dedicated Ex-Agniveer Wing has been established under the Ministry of Home Affairs to coordinate recruitment-related matters.

¨     As of 21 July 2026, no appointments had been made under the new policy because the first batch of Agniveers had not yet completed their tenure.
