¨     Veteran BJP leader and former Union Minister of State Kabindra Purkayastha die at the age of 94.

¨     He was born on 15 December 1931 at Kamarkhal in the then Sylhet district. The area is part of present-day Bangladesh.

¨     He joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in 1951.

¨     His public life was deeply rooted in the functioning of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

¨     He contributed significantly to expansion of the RSS network in Northeast India.

¨     He was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 1991 and represented the Silchar Lok Sabha constituency.

¨     He was re-elected to Parliament in 1998 and served as Minister of State for Telecommunications during Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenure.
