West Bengal's association with the
Ayushman Bharat PM-Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY)
¨
West Bengal is set to
join Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) through a
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Health Authority on 8 June
2026.
¨
With this move, West
Bengal will become the 36th State or Union Territory to implement the scheme.
¨
The rollout of the scheme
in the State is scheduled to begin in July 2026.
¨
Ayushman Bharat Pradhan
Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) is a Centrally Sponsored health insurance
scheme launched by the Government of India in 2018.
¨
The scheme provides
cashless and paperless treatment to eligible families at empanelled public and
private hospitals across India.
¨
Eligible families receive
health insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per year for secondary and tertiary
care hospitalisation.
¨
The scheme covers
hospital treatment, surgeries, medicines, diagnostic tests, and pre- and
post-hospitalisation expenses within approved package rates.
¨
An estimated 6 crore families
in West Bengal are expected to gain access to AB PM-JAY benefits after the
State joins the scheme.
¨
Beneficiaries of the
State health insurance scheme Swasthya Sathi will be gradually integrated into
the Ayushman Bharat framework.
¨
The integration is
expected to expand access to affordable healthcare and strengthen health
insurance coverage across the State.
