CCPA issued notices to Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho, and JioMart over the alleged sale of herbicide products

¨     Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) issued notices to Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho, and JioMart on 16 May 2026 over the alleged sale of herbicide products.

¨     Earlier, on 16 January 2026, the CCPA imposed penalties on several e-commerce platforms for the illegal sale of unauthorised walkie-talkies.

Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA)

¨     The Central Consumer Protection Authority is a statutory regulator established under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.

¨     It functions under the Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.

¨     The CCPA deals with unfair trade practices, misleading advertisements, and violations of consumer rights.

Walkie-Talkies and Radio Equipment Rules

¨     Walkie-talkies are handheld two-way radio devices used for short-range communication.

¨     In India, radio equipment must comply with licensing rules, frequency allocation norms, and Equipment Type Approval (ETA) requirements where applicable.

¨     The January 2026 action focused on Personal Mobile Radios (PMRs) operating outside the licence-exempt frequency band.

¨     The CCPA found that some online listings described such devices as “licence-free” or “100% legal” without properly disclosing licensing requirements.
