significant rules on May 26, 2026, under the National Sports Governance Act,
2025
¨
Central government
notified the National Sports Governance (National Sports Board) Rules, 2026 and
the National Sports Governance (National Sports Tribunal) Rules, 2026 on 26 May
2026 under the National Sports Governance Act, 2025.
¨
These rules establish the
framework for two statutory bodies: the National Sports Board (NSB) and the
National Sports Tribunal (NST).
¨
The National Sports Board
(NSB) will serve as the central authority for granting recognition to national
sports federations.
¨
NSB will also monitor
compliance with governance, financial, and ethical standards by recognised
sports bodies.
¨
The NSB will consist of a
Chairperson and two members appointed by the central government based on the
recommendation of a selection committee.
¨
The tenure of NSB members
will be three years, with an upper age limit of 65 years.
¨
NSB members cannot hold
any position in national or international sports bodies during their tenure.
¨
The National Sports
Tribunal (NST) will be a dedicated judicial body for resolving sports-related
disputes.
¨
NST is designed to settle
disputes outside civil courts under the sports governance framework.
¨
The NST rules provide for
digital filing of disputes, notices, and documents through a dedicated online
portal.
¨
Virtual hearings are also
permitted to ensure efficient and technology-enabled dispute resolution.
¨ The Chairperson of NST will serve a term of four years or until the age of 70, whichever is earlier.
¨ Members of NST will serve for four years or until the age of 67, whichever is earlier.
