Defence Acquisition Council granted Acceptance of Necessity for capital acquisition proposals worth approximately ₹52,000 crore

¨     Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) granted Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for capital acquisition proposals worth approximately ₹52,000 crore.

¨     The DAC is the highest decision-making body in the Ministry of Defence for capital procurement.

¨     It is chaired by the Defence Minister.

¨     The Defence Acquisition Council was established after the Kargil War to speed up defence procurement and reduce delays in the acquisition process.

¨     The Council oversees the procurement of weapons, platforms, sensors, and support systems for the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force.

¨     Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) is the first formal approval in the defence acquisition process.

¨     AoN allows the armed services to initiate the next stages, including tendering, technical evaluation, and contract finalization.

Major systems approved for the Indian Army include

¨     Aakashteer UAV Electronic Warfare System

¨     Man-Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) System

¨     Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM) System

¨     Very Short-Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS)

¨     Active Protection System (APS) for tanks

¨     Jet-powered Loitering Munition (Kamikaze Drone) System

These systems will significantly strengthen the Army’s air defence, anti-armour warfare, and unmanned strike capabilities.
