¨   Five new districts have been officially notified in Ladakh, as announced by Lieutenant Governor Vijay Kumar Saxena on social media.

¨     He described it as a historic day for Ladakh, fulfilling long-pending demands and aspirations of the people.

¨     With this decision, the number of districts in Ladakh will increase from 2 to 7.

The five new districts are

1.     Nubra

2.     Sham

3.     Changthang

4.     Zanskar

5.     Drass

The move aligns with the vision of a developed and prosperous Ladakh.

The decision had already been approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs in August 2024 under the leadership of the Home Minister.

Key objectives of this administrative restructuring

¨     Strengthening grassroots governance

¨     Ensuring administrative decentralisation

¨     Improving delivery of public services in remote and difficult areas

¨     Creating new opportunities for development, employment, and entrepreneurship

¨ Overall, the initiative aims to bring governance closer to citizens and improve regional development.
