India seized Captagon tablets and powder for the first time under “Operation Rezpill

¨     India seized Captagon tablets and powder for the first time under “Operation Rezpill.”

¨     The total value of the seized consignment was estimated at around ₹182 crore.

¨     Narcotics Control Bureau seized the consignment from Mundra Port in Gujarat and the Neb Sarai area of South Delhi.

¨     A Syrian national was arrested in connection with the case.

¨     Captagon is the common trade name for Fenethylline.

¨     It is a synthetic stimulant first developed in the 1960s.

¨     Due to its stimulant effects and abuse potential, it is classified as a controlled psychotropic substance in many jurisdictions.

¨     Operation Rezpill is an anti-narcotics campaign conducted by the Narcotics Control Bureau.

¨     The seized consignment included about 227.7 kilograms of Captagon tablets.

¨     Around 196.2 kilograms of Captagon powder was also recovered.

¨   The contraband was concealed inside wool cartons, tea leaf boxes, and a commercial chapati-cutting machine.

¨     The seized shipment was mainly intended for Middle Eastern countries, including Saudi Arabia.

¨     The arrested Syrian national had entered India on a tourist visa on 15 November 2024.

¨     He continued to stay in India even after his visa expired on 12 January 2025.
