¨     India will supply 2 lakh tons of broken rice to humanitarian efforts worldwide. This supply will be made over a five-year period to combat hunger.

¨     An agreement was signed between the Food Corporation of India (FCI) and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in this regard.

¨     The agreement allows for extensions by mutual consent, and the price will be agreed upon annually. The price has been fixed at Rs 2,800 per quintal until March 31, 2026.

¨     Sanjiv Chopra, Secretary, Department of Food and Public Distribution, said that through our partnership with WEFP, we are providing hope, nutrition, and dignity to people struggling with hunger.

¨     This agreement demonstrates India's commitment to ensuring that no one goes hungry. India will stand with the international community in fighting malnutrition and food shortages.

¨     WFP Deputy Executive Director Carl Schau said that this agreement with India is a significant milestone in fighting hunger globally. India's support will help WFP more effectively deliver nutritious food to vulnerable populations over the next five years.
