Indian Coast Guard commissioned ICGS Akshay, a new-generation Fast Patrol Vessel ,at Goa Shipyard Limited, Vasco, Goa

¨     Indian Coast Guard (ICG) commissioned ICGS Akshay, a new-generation Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV), at Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), Vasco, Goa.

¨     ICGS Akshay is a 52-metre indigenously built patrol vessel.

¨     It is the fourth vessel in the Adamya-class Fast Patrol Vessel series.

¨     Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs) are used for coastal surveillance, patrolling, interception, and maritime law enforcement.

¨     A total of eight Adamya-class vessels are being developed for the Indian Coast Guard.

¨     The vessel has been built under the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives.

¨     It contains more than 65% indigenous content.

¨     ICGS Akshay is the first Indian Coast Guard vessel class to feature a Controllable Pitch Propeller (CPP)-based propulsion system.

¨     The vessel is powered by two 3,000 kW diesel engines.

¨     It has a displacement of 320 tonnes.

¨     The ship is crewed by 6 officers and 35 sailors.

¨     Commandant (Junior Grade) Deepak Choubey is the commanding officer of the vessel.

¨     Its armament includes a 30 mm CRN-91 naval gun and two 12.7 mm stabilised remote-controlled machine guns.
