¨     It is one of 12 regional agricultural products from Madhya Pradesh that received GI certification out of 18 proposed products.

¨     In India, GI registration is governed by the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999.

¨     The Indori Malwi potato is known for its low sugar and low starch content.

¨     It retains its white colour after frying, making it ideal for chips and French fries.

¨     It is widely used in Indore’s famous street foods such as Aloo Chaat, Poha, Aloo Bada, and Khopra Petis.

¨     The crop is cultivated on about 45,000 hectares in Indore district.

¨     Around 30,000–35,000 farmers are engaged in its cultivation.

¨     Major companies such as ITC, Mahindra, PepsiCo, Balaji, McCain, and Hyfun Seeds procure processing-grade potatoes from local farmers.
