International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed annually on
03 December.
¨ This day celebrates the resilience,
contributions and leadership of persons with disabilities (PwDs) worldwide.
¨ The theme for this year is “Fostering
disability inclusive societies for advancing social progress”.
¨ United Nations General Assembly had
proclaimed 03 December as International Day of Persons with Disabilities in
1992.
¨ Convention on the Rights of Persons with
Disabilities (CRPD) was adopted in 2006.
¨
It is estimated that 1.3 billion people experience significant
disability and represent 16% of the world's population.
