Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth Becomes New Vice Chief of Army Staff; Brings Experience of Commanding the Sudarshan Chakra Corps

¨     Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, who has previously commanded the Sudarshan Chakra Corps within the Indian Army, has been entrusted with a significant responsibility.

¨    Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, who previously served as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Army's Southern Command, has assumed office as the country's new Vice Chief of Army Staff.

¨  Concurrently, new General Officers Commanding-in-Chief have also been appointed for the Western, Southern, and Eastern Commands.

Including Counter-Terrorism Operations

¨   Commissioned into the Army's Armoured Corps in December 1986 after graduating from the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Khadakwasla, Lieutenant General Seth has successfully navigated conflict situations and challenges across various regions of the country—including counter-terrorism operations—during his career spanning nearly four decades.

¨   Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Sandeep Jain has assumed charge as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command, succeeding Dhiraj Seth.

Experience in Commanding Counter-Terrorism Forces

¨ Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth possesses extensive experience, having commanded an Armoured Regiment in a desert sector, an Armoured Brigade in a developed sector, and a Counter-Terrorism Force in Jammu and Kashmir.

¨  Following his promotion to the rank of Lieutenant General, he assumed command of the Sudarshan Chakra Corps; subsequently, while serving as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Delhi Area, he led several major national and international operations.

¨ Upon being promoted to the rank of Army Commander, he served as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of both the South Western Command and the Southern Command. Furthermore, he holds the rare distinction of having commanded two operational commands of the Army along the Western Front.
